Anyway, I wanted to make a car number plate scanning program so I thought about what would be needed.
There would have to be some computer vision to recognise the number plates and there would need to be some optical character recognition to read the characters from the number plate.
After looking at what some other people had done in this regard and implemented what I thought was both simple and effective.
I couldn't move too far with my bulky desktop computer so decided to have my program use the webcam, and then pointed a picture of a number plate that was on my telephone towards the webcam.
It was a success, it recognised the number plate and I could move my life on to bigger and better things.
This was a simple project but was great to learn a few new things along the way.
