It's time that I did something about the unreliable internet.

My problem

This is a problem for me. I missed an exam recently due to the internet connection here being unreliable. Even more recently, it slowed to a crawl again and I was fed up. Checking through my phone contacts I came across an old friend of mine, a certain E. Musk. After a quick call and an exchange of currency, a solution was on its way.

A few weeks later and the solution was here. Starlink arrived and my worries were over.
The router it came with is a really nice design, in fact it all seems to be well designed.
I got to work plugging everything in and getting everything prepared for testing.
After placing the receiver outside, the system was ready to be tested.

The Starlink app guides you through the set up and I want to thank the UX designers at Starlink for making this a really seamless and enjoyable experience.
Aligning the dish to the best direction (according to the app) was straight forward and the speed test I performed afterwards showed very promising results.
My gamble had paid off, at this point I was satisfied with my decision to get Starlink.

My stopgap solution

The next problem I faced was getting the cord from the router to the receiver outside in a clean and permanent manner.
As you can see, the temporary solution I had in place was just not good enough by any standards and needed improving ASAP.
Ideas on how to achieve this started to take form in my mind.

This was the most nerve-racking experience of the whole ordeal so far.
The worry was that I would crack the plasterboard while attempting to drill through it but I felt the fear and did it anyway.
It was a success, so I fed the cord through and placed a rubber grommet in the hole to seal it off nicely.

The final product

I mounted the dish to the roof with a bracket I had purchased on ebay and I think it looks decent enough.

The reliability of the connection was no longer a problem and all my issues were now solved.
Thank you to all the people at Starlink for helping me fix everything, and thank you, dear reader, for reading about it.
