I think that the term 'flow dojo optimisation' is very funny but at the same time, I think it's something worth having a go at.
Let's look at some definitions:
Flow, noun: A smooth uninterrupted movement or progress
Dojo, noun: A hall or place for immersive learning, experiential learning, or meditation
It's probably a good idea to try and make the space you occupy when being productive into a nice space that doesn't distract you, and even helps you.
While I am grateful for the space I currently occupy, it seems to me that it's more of a 'trickle dojo' and could use some improvements. Getting rid of the clutter around my workspace and trying to maximise the usability of the space are important in achieving an optimised flow dojo. Can you think of ideas for your own space that might work for you?
Looks like some mail arrived, maybe this stuff is here to help me optimise my flow dojo. Let's take a look and see what's in the boxes.
This appears to be some kind of shelving, that will be a good start to help with decluttering. I'll set this up first.
I thought I would share this because I found it super odd. They have included a tiny glove and I am not sure why. Can you think of a reason why they would send me this small glove? Inside the tiny glove is where they put the screws so maybe it has something to do with that.
This is starting to look better already and gives me somewhere to put my clothes that isn't a suitcase on the floor. My trickle dojo is improving but we still have work to do.
Inside this next box is something I have been meaning to get for some time, a new desk. This is not just any old desk, this is a motorised sit/stand desk which will help me to change up my environment when I need to
The workspace is beginning to look really nice, cable management looks like it will be a bit of an issue but this is a teething problem and can be sorted out later. Cables really are the issue here as the desk height will be changing. It's important to make sure that all your cables have enough length to spare. You would not be able to say your flow dojo was optimised if one of your monitors was broken from being pulled to the ground by it's cable.
Here's the final box for now. Inside is the piece de resistance. Can you guess what's inside? If you are a bit of a Sherlock I bet you just might be able to.
You guessed right, well done. Here's the treadmill in all it's glory. After using this for a bit it's not so great when doing something active like writing, but is great for things like reading, during a meeting, or watching a video. Not too noisy either. I think overall it's a great idea and helps when you just need to change things up sometimes.
This is it for now, a huge improvement. My trickle dojo has officially turned into a flow dojo. I can still think of some improvements I could make, maybe a bookshelf and maybe an indoor plant. Certainly there is something I can do to help with those cables. Has this given you any ideas for your own space? What sort of optimisations could you make to your own flow dojo?
UPDATE: I managed all my cables, it was pretty simple and will do for now but I think it can still be improved upon. Cable management kits are able to be purchased online for pretty cheap on websites like ebay and probaly amazon as well if that's your thing.
I'll keep this space updated with any flow dojo changes that occur. Thanks a lot for reading this, hopefully you've enjoyed it and have been able to get something out of it
